Chauncey Goodrich (1836-1925) first published his pocket dictionary in 1891, "at T'ungchow, near Peking," with the American Presbyterian Mission Press. The press had been founded in 1844 and would become the "largest and most sophisticated Protestant missionary printing enterprise among the Chinese," per Chinese historian and scholar Suzanne Wilson Barnett. Our volume was printed by Kwang Hsueh Press, in Shanghai, in 1933.
