RAF Wing-Commander Eric "Garry" Garrad-Cole was shot down over Libya in 1940 and held in Italy as a POW until his escape in 1943. Once free, he remained in Italy, with a new mustache and glasses, as Mario Monti, helping the Rome Organisation, a group which assisted other escaped Allied POWs in Italy.
