Brice Marden: Classic Paintings

New York: C&M Arts, 1999. Very Good. Item #9888

New York: C&M Arts, 1999. First Edition. Quarto (27.5x22x1cm); too austere to be paginated, but we, more pragmatic, counted: [33pp]. Nine featured works reproduced in color; additional documentary photographs of Marden in his studio. Nude frosted translucent jacket; volume in silver-gray cloth with black lettering on front panel and spine. Jacket is clean and crisp with no chips, tears, or marks. Very faint curve to front board at fore-edge. Binding is sound and pages unmarked.

This is the catalog for the exhibition "Brice Marden: Classic Paintings" in NYC at C&M Arts, held 30 March - 29 May 1999.

In his salad days, just after Yale, where he was within the influence of the rectilinear Josef Albers legacy, Marden stayed within the lines. Quite literally. This volume is a record of those early planar perpendicularities. It was only later that his lines went all squiggly.

Price: $40.00
