The publication of The Visitors From Oz sprang from Dick Martin's chance discovery of a 1904 Baum newspaper comic titled "Queer Visitors from the Marvelous Land of Oz." Jean Kellogg adapted the stories in to book form, though was not credited for her work, and Martin would go on to design and illustrate Oz publications for Reilly & Lee.
