The Philanthropist; Or, A Good Twenty-Five Cents Worth of Political Love Powder, for Honest Adamites and Jeffersonians

Dumfries, VA: [n.p.], 1799. Very Good. Item #11478

Dumfries, VA: [n.p.], 1799. Octavo. [2], 30 pp. Bound in modern grey cardstock wraps. Touch of spotting to title page; overall very good.

Scarce pamphlet from Parson Weems, who was the source of many apocryphal tales about George Washington (such as the tale of the cherry tree) and would go on to write the first biography of George Washington in 1800. Here Weems attempts to reconcile feuding Federalists and Republicans, and prints Washington's favorable recommendation on the title page. Printed on the second leaf is a dedicatory letter addressed to Washington from Weems.
