Girard, KS: The Appeal to Reason, 1906. First Edition. Octavo; 142pp. Printed dust jacket with $1.00 price to front; book in blue cloth with white lettering and border. Jacket separated in two with most of the spine missing except for the band with title and author; 3" tear along front flap, sizeable chip to back with some loss to final two blurbs and publisher's advert at bottom; general smudging, foxing, and a few waterspots to surface. Boards are square with bright lettering to front; quarter-sized stain at bottom spine corner; rubbing at corners and spine ends. Old gift inscription on front free endpaper, else pages unmarked. Binding is secure. Uncommon in jacket.

Sinclair's novella of a corrupt industrialist, which he called in his autobiography "the most ferocious of my stories." Published by The Appeal to Reason out of Girard, Kansas, at the time the most widely-circulated Socialist newspaper in the United States.
