Boards rather worn with large loss of marbled paper from rear cover, corners exposed, repaired loss along bottom of pp. 23/4 affecting text with brief loss of meaning, textblock rather soiled and bears extensive contemporary juvenile annotations and gift inscriptions, including one reader's assessment on p. 5: "An excellent story." Good overall.

Religious tract describing the early life and capture of Joseph Reed at the hands of an unknown Native American tribe. Recovering from an illness while in captivity, Reed is befriended by a boy named Light Foot to whom he teaches the stories of the Bible. HOWES B419.
