Bound in full contemporary scarlet morocco; four raised bands to spine; gilt ruling and lettering; all edges gilt; red endpapers.
Light wear to edges and joints with bumping to corners; patchy black discoloration to a few volumes; general scuffing; toning to spines. Bindings sound. First gathering of vol. I loose but remains attached; staining along top edge of volume I, though text unaffected; interiors else largely unmarked and legible throughout. A Very Good and quite handsome set of the Allason edition of Gibbon's opus, published between 1816 and 1823.
