The Vigil of Brunhild: A Narrative Poem

London: John Murray, 1907. Near Fine. Item #30399

London: John Murray, 1907. First Edition. Slim octavo; publisher's green gilt-stamped cloth, top edge gilt; v,[1],62pp. Spine very slightly cocked, else a Near Fine copy.

The Australian author's scarce first book, a poetic oral meditation spoken through the medium of the Visigothic queen consort Brunhild (543-613).

Provenance: Ownership ex libris to front pastedown of the Universalist minister and playful art huckster Paul Jordan Smith (1885-1971), who created the faux art movement Disumbrationism in retaliation of his artist's wife's chilly critical reception. Perhaps not surprisingly, his crude tableau "Exaltation; or, Yes, we have no bananas" was met with the praise his more talented wife had failed to garner.

Price: $150.00
