Workin' on the Chain Gang: Shaking off the Dead Hand of History [Inscribed to Bill & Hillary Clinton]

New York: The Library of Contemporary Thought, The Ballantine Publishing Group, 2000. Near Fine / Fine. Item #32716

New York: The Library of Contemporary Thought, The Ballantine Publishing Group, 2000. First Edition. Octavo; publisher's two-toned boards in pictorial dust jacket; 118pp. Touch of rubbing to edges of boards; Near Fine in a Fine dust jacket. Inscribed by Mosley on dust jacket front panel in sharpie to Bill and Hillary Clinton, "Thanks Bill for a great talk. This is for you + Hillary. Walter Mosley." Book itself not signed.

Bill Clinton helped vault Mosley to fame in 1992 when he flashed a copy of the author's debut, Devil in a Blue Dress, while on the campaign trail, proclaiming Mosley as one of his favorite novelists. In an interview on his own website, Mosley said of the former President, "Bill was a really smart guy. He knew my books better than I did,...He read them very closely. We were sitting at dinner one day and he was talking about how the books were about migration. Clinton was talking about how these characters had moved, and in that new place had created a place of power.” An intriguing association.
