Quite uncommon epic poem devoted to the French King Louis IX who reigned from 1226 until his death in 1270. Known as both Saint Louis and the Monk King, he is the country's only canonized monarch. The work here is divided into twelve cantos, each of which is followed by the author's lengthy historical notes.
