Black cloth boards stamped in gilt; red topstain and endpapers. Dust jacket sunned and rubbed with chipping and several short tears to edges. Boards slightly cocked; corners slightly bumped; thinly dust speckled. Binding sound and pages unmarked; overall a Very Good copy of Greene's second published novel, which he disowned, suppressed, and called, "of a badness beyond the power of criticism properly to evoke."
