United States: n.d., ca. 1860s. Unused Civil War patriotic mailing envelope (7.5x14cm); upper panel adorned with a woodcut illustration printed in red. Light soil and wrinkling, else a Very Good, bright and unused example.
Patriotic cover revisiting a popular Union theme: the unpopularity of Confederate president Jefferson Davis. The image shows a soaring eagle dangling Davis from the seat of his pants, while a Black family on the ground look up at the spectacle. Davis holds a small flag with a death's head in his right hand while a word balloon coming out of his mouth reads "Oh! Lord! Let me alone." Another word balloon comes out of the woman on the ground: "You's in a bad fix sure enough!"
Price: $75.00
