Inscription reads “With best wishes to Burt Britton from Nelson Algren / NYC 11 Oct. 1975” and includes one of Algren’s characteristic cat doodles. Burt Britton was a New York-based bookseller and collector. Laid-in at front are materials from the publisher: a letter from the Publicity Director, a black-and-white author photograph, and a note that permits reviewers to quote the text.
