New York?: ca. 1955. Offset lithograph of Andy Warhol's "Happy Butterfly Day" print. Print measures 32x45cm; in frame: 43x56.5cm. The piece utilizes blotted-line technique and shows the artist's early interest in the repetition of the same or similar image. Half of the butterflies colored in in watercolor with an uncharacteristically subtle and muted palette mixture of yellows, greens and tans. Light wear to edges and a couple creases to print including long vertical crease along middle (as is usually the case); Very Good or better. Recently re-framed under glass. Not signed or dated, but likely from circa 1955-56 during the days when Warhol was employed in the advertising sector.

Provenance: From the inventory of the late bookseller Alan Zipkin's Derringer Books. In his description, Zipkin noted that this came directly from the estate of a family once closely connected to the women's fashion and print advertising industry of the 50s and 60s. A fetching work from Warhol's pre-pop days. .
