The author's first novel, begun while an uncertified teacher at the British School at Eastwood and continued as a student at Nottingham University College. This U.K. Edition appeared on January 20, 1911, following the American edition by one day. This copy appears to be variant (4) as described by Roberts with a 1911 copyright date, pp. [i-iv] reprinted and pasted in, and pp. 227-230 provided in cancel with modified text.
