Inscribed on half title page by Sonia Sanchez: "Ebe Yiye! Sonia Sanchez 6/10/95, Washington." "Ebe Yiye" means "It will get better!" in Twi, a language spoken in Ghana and parts of the Ivory Coast. An oft-used phrase of Sanchez's, it appears within the book as well in poem number 6.
