Paris: s.i., 1873. Quarto (28cm); publisher's full pictorial black morocco stamped in gilt, all edges gilt; [37]ll. filled to completion with 535 color embossed crests. Binding quite worn and soiled and spine partly perished, several crest examples crudely removed (and not included in the count), most likely lacking one leaf. Good at best, though contents are still mostly clean and sound.

An example of a very popular late 19th-century pastime, collecting and scrapbooking armorial crests. This volume with the ownership inscription on front free endpaper of Louise Cardoze, 1 rue Beaujon, Paris, Nov 22, 1873. Cardoze assembled the emblems often by color and subject in a very pleasing manner.
