New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1925. Very Good. Item #47447
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1925. Second Printing, one of 3000 copies printed, with all six textual errors corrected, else identical to the first printing. Octavo; original bluish-green cloth blind-stamped to front and with gilt lettering to spine; 218pp. Lacks dust jacket. Corners bumped; rubbing to spine; light wear to extremities with brief exposure; smudge to rear; binding sound; contemporary gift inscription to preliminaries and brief pen notes to rear free endpaper, else unmarked.
Overall a Very Good and sound copy of Fitzgerald's cynical assessment of the American Dream. Initially a commercial disappointment, the novel did receive favorable reviews upon publication, such as Lillian C. Ford of the L.A. Times who ends her review, "It leaves the reader in a mood of chastened wonder," further noting "Mr. Fitzgerald has certainly arrived."
