Signed by the author without inscription on tipped-in leaf following title page. Bowle's second novel originally begun in 1941 while aboard a Polish freighter as it entered the Strait of Gibraltar and first published in 1952. This edition opens with a new preface by the author titled "Thirty Years Later."
