Darlington, Indian Territory [Oklahoma]: ca. 1881. Two illustrated cards, one chromolithographed and issued by Dozier-Weyl Cracker Co. (13x8 cm), the other woodblock printed (7x11 cm). Each gently rubbed at margins with mild toning; overall both Very Good or better examples.
Charles T. Connell sold dry goods, groceries, camp equipment, clothing, and cattle supplies, among other items, to settlers in and around Darlington, Indian Territory, now present-day Oklahoma, between 1881 and 1886. He later moved to Arizona Territory and became a federal immigration inspector there in 1903. While one trade card is printed with morose cattle sporting a variety of brands, the other was produced by the Dozier-Weyl Cracker Co. featuring a colorful parrot eating a hard cracker with T. Connell's information on the verso.
