Signed by the author without inscription on tipped-in half title. Having grown up in post-WWI Berlin, Awret began her studies in art before fleeing to Brussels as the Nazis rose to power. She was arrested and imprisoned a Gestapo transit camp in Mechelen. After liberation, she emigrated to Israel and founded an art colony in Safed, then eventually moved to the United States in the 1970s.
