Spine nearly entirely perished; boards worn and scuffed with exposure; splits along joints as well as exposure to hinges, but binding holding. Remnants of bookplate to pastedowns; mild spotting throughout; institutional markings to preface page with "Women's College," "Griffith Purchase 1940" and call number and blindstamp present (deaccession confirmed). A Good only but serviceable copy of the first of Douglass' three memoirs, which was originally published in 1845 and helped propel him to fame as a leading voice in the Abolitionist movement.
