Item #48027 The Black Ghost. Conspiracy Theories, Thalia Dechert?

The Black Ghost

Chicago: Dechert Publications, 1965. Very Good. Item #48027

Chicago: Dechert Publications, 1965. First Edition. Slim octavo (22cm); publisher’s illustrated staple-bound wraps; unpaginated; illustrations and images throughout. Lightly bumped and toned; binding sound. A few annotations in blue ink. Very Good.

Curious conspiracy theory pamphlet claiming that “The assassination of the mythical hero Abraham Lincoln was strictly a farce thought up by Phineas T. Barnum.” Provides a brief history of Ford Theater, where Lincoln’s (very real) assassination took place, as well as a description of John Wilkes Booth’s genealogy. Features fabricated contributions by Booth’s extended family and an absurdly long aside about Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind’s relationship with P.T. Barnum. Laid-in at front is a promotional sheet for another, equally implausible Dechert booklet.
