Postcard mentioning divorce
Washington, DC: s.i., 1906. Very Good. Item #48483
Washington, DC: s.i., 1906. Picture postcard measuring 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Front shows DC’s historic Soldiers Home, where senders have written in black ink “Going to get divorce on my return, don’t like married life. / [NDC?] Jr.” and “Me either! / Edna.” Verso shows recipient address (Richmond, VA) and typical postal markings in black ink. Original postage stamp has been removed. Lightly toned and bumped; bottom corner creased. Nevertheless Very Good.
Is this a genuine confession of marital woe? Or a sarcastic stunt, sent from a weekend getaway? Better yet, was the couple on their honeymoon when they put this postcard in the mail?
