Abas Nos. 1 - 3 [With] Typed Note Signed by Buckley
Newark, NJ: Abas, 1968. Very Good+. Item #48601
Newark, NJ: Abas, 1968-9. First Editions. Three octavo volumes; staplebound self-wrappers; illus. throughout. Light toning to margins, issue No. 1 lacking outer self-wrappers from an error during production (see below), else a Very Good to Near Fine set.
The scarce first three issues of this Newark underground Little Magazine, which joined the UPS (Underground Press Syndicate) after its second issue. In the Editor's Column in No. 2 Buckley explains that "Abas wants to be a quality magazine, but with none of the standard restrictions, and if possible, without the aid of advertising in our pages...We print by photo-offset since it's cheap, but still affords *some* appearance."
Together with a short letter on Abas letterhead signed Michael J. Buckley and dated January 18, 1969, addressed to Mr. Warshawski. "We are sorry the Evergreen ad did not appear earlier; our supply of #1 & #2 has been exhausted, except for *incomplete* copies (enclosed)." Buckley goes on to recommend the new literary quarterly "Beyond Baroque," issued out of Venice, CA.
Price: $250.00
