[Baltimore, MD]: Just Government League of Maryland, 1915-1917. Seventeen folio issues (35cm); printed in two columns; each issue 8pp.; illus., maps, and pictorial ads throughout. Horizontal mail folds and mail labels addressed to Mrs. R.E. Root (Mary Keziah Batchellor-Root (1880-1965) of Annapolis, MD); edgewear and minor chipping; a couple issues with perished staples, occasional splitting at folds, and a couple covers detached, but on the whole clean and bright and printed on quality paper; Good to Very Good.

Maryland Suffrage News ran from 1912 to 1920, established and edited by Edith Houghton Hooker (1879-1948), a social worker by training. Her research on prostitution and public health eventually led to her promoting sex education as well as the women's suffrage movement. One article here discusses disease and sex work involving the US Army during the Pancho Villa Expedition and another asks "Shall Prostitution Follow Our Maryland Boys?" published a month after the U.S entered World War I.

Also included in these issues are several issues promoting "Gilman Week," which saw Charlotte Perkins Gilman come to the newspaper's headquarters and deliver a series of six lectures on "The Larger Feminism.” An article published here provide a brief synopsis of Gilman's appearances. A remarkable collection of a rare Suffragist newspaper.
