Small archive from the so-called Office of Cocktail Administration
Grand Rapids, MI: Office of Cocktail Administration, 1943. Very Good. Item #49087
Grand Rapids, MI: Office of Cocktail Administration, 1943. Extremely involved cocktail party invitation mimicking the Government-sponsored World War II ration books. The collection includes a mimeographed typescript letter signed by the well-to-do Grand Rapids lawyer Siegel Judd and his wife Dorothy on Office of Cocktail Administration (O.C.A.) letterhead dated February 20, 1943; the original postmarked envelope; and two basic cocktail ration books, one each for Eric and Elvira Roloratek. Letter and envelope slightly worn at edges, ration books in fine, sadly unused condition. Very Good overall.
A truly impressive production by cocktail party hosts Dorothy and Siegel Judd of 440 Morris Avenue SE in Grand Rapids, enclosing "herewith your Cocktail Ration Book which represents your allotment of cocktails next Thursday afternoon from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., February 25, at the local O.C.A. office."
The enclosed ration books, with a generous allotment of eight cocktails, are very convincing facsimiles of those issued by the government for necessities like meat, sugar, or gasoline. The interior wrapper notes that "Each coupon is good for one cocktail and is non-transferable. The number of gallons which each coupon gives you the right to consume will depend on the demands of the consumers and the supply in the neighborhood." A+ for effort and a delightful look at home front entertainment.
