Two octavo volumes (20cm); publisher's green pictorial cloth stamped in gilt and black, peach endpapers; iv,314; iv,269,[1],16pp.; frontispieces at head of each volume, twenty-two (22) and twenty-three (23) plates respectively, collated presumed complete, hundreds of text woodcuts throughout both volumes. Moderate shelf wear, heavier to "Field of Ice," which has fairly extensive exposure to board margins and fraying at spine ends, rear hinge cracked. Overall, an About Very Good and sound set.
The first two volumes in the trilogy that would be published as "The Voyages and Adventures of Captain Hatteras," together with "The English at the North Pole."
