Important and wide-ranging work on the history of African-American newspapers, dedicated "To the Unconquerable Host of Afro-Americans who are laying their sacrifices upon the editorial altar for their race." Includes unsigned contributions from Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington as well as an extensive chapter on Black women in Journalism accompanied by several portraits. Quite scarce in retail and only a handful of appearances at auction in the last thirty years.
