Pair of Ninth and Sixteenth Plate Ambrotypes, possibly of a Married Mexican couple, housed in Union Cases

Northampton, MA: Littlefield, Parsons and Company, 1860. Fine. Item #50017

United States?: photographer unknown, ca. 1860s. Housed in separate union cases manufactured by Littlefield, Parsons and Company of Northampton, MA. Two ambrotype specimens depicting what appear to be a married man and woman, possibly of Mexican descent, both in Fine condition:

1. Ninth plate ambrotype (6.5x5cm) of a man whose body, hands, and clothes are heavily touched up by the photographer, his right hand adorned with two added gilt rings holding a painted cigar, an added gilt watch chain peeking out of his checkered vest, and a long line of painted gilt rivets running up the side of his pant legs. Housed in a perfectly preserved Nesting Birds union case with blue velvet padding attributed to Littlefield, Parsons and Company. Krainik and Walvoord 168.

2. Sixteenth plate ambrotype (5x3cm) of an elegantly dressed woman, her dress much less touched up than her husband's, though the photographer has added in gilt a ring on each hand and a prominent gold cross around her throat. Housed in another, smaller Littlefield, Parsons and Company union case, a variant of the Chess Players with purple velvet padding. Krainik and Walvoord 381.
