The Great Gatsby

New York: The Modern Library, 1934. Very Good / Very Good -. Item #50230

New York: The Modern Library, 1934. First Modern Library Edition. 12mo; blue cloth boards stamped in gilt; dark topstain; illustrated endpapers; illustrated dust jacket with 225 titles listed to verso; 218pp. + advertisements. Dust jacket worn with light chipping to edges; general soiling; sunning to spine. Rubbing to boards with fading to edges; slight lean; binding sound; pages unmarked; a Very Good copy in a Good to Very Good dust jacket.

The Modern Library Edition of Fitzgerald's now-classis novel includes a new introduction by Fitzgerald which he ends, "But remember, also, young man: you are not the first person who has ever been alone and alone." The edition did not sell well and many copies have a "Discontinued" stamp to the front panel, which does not appear here. Jacketed copies rather uncommon in retail.
