Beirut, Lebanon/ Syria: Offices d'Interet Commun Haut-Commissariat, Service du Tourisme, 1936. Single double-sided printed sheet of promotional information for potential student travelers to French colonial Syria (29cm). Generally toned with previous folds creased and toned more heavily. Small puncture to center where all folds join and closed tear to bottom of center fold. Year penciled to recto top right corner. An About Very Good example of pre-WWII tourism material.
Likely geared toward American students, the tourism department attempts to entice any wanderlusters to Syria with inexpensive domestic travel, "cheerful little coffee houses" and "strange Arab night clubs." In 1936, Syria would see a general strike among the Syrian people and a treaty negotiation later in the year to guarantee the people self-rule after another 25 years of French rule.
