Trade Card for the Massachusetts House, Boston
Boston: Bofford, 1890. Very Good-. Item #50291
Boston: Bofford, n.d., ca. 1890s. Color printed trade card (13x8.5cm) adorned with a full-length portrait of the performer Carrie Perkins. Card a bit soiled and rubbed at margins, removed from larger scrapbook with remnants of another trade card to verso. About Very Good.
Trade card for the Massachusetts House near New Washington Street and Haymarket Square, Boston, "Open all night." The portrait of Carrie Perkins shows her in a rather outré outfit of yellow tasseled hotpants over pink tights and pink and white striped socks. We can find little about the proprietor C.W. Baker or the establishment, presumably a cabaret or restaurant for the theater-going crowd. Perkins herself appeared in theater productions largely between 1890 and 1910.
