Inscribed and signed in year of publication on half title page, "For May Sinclair, with sincere wishes from Jean de Bosschere / Christmas 1921." A wonderful association copy from the French author and illustrator to the prolific British author and suffragist. Sinclair provided the introduction to de Bosschere's 1917 work The Closed Door, in which she wrote that de Bosschere "is a master of symbolisms and sublimations. He has the mystic vision... He holds up his glass at an unexpected angle and shows you a surprising image of the world, a disconcerting image of your own face. And you see him peeping behind his looking glass like a wise but slightly malevolent sorcerer and enjoying your bewilderment and your embarrassment.".
