London: Printed for the Author; and Sold by W. Griffin, [1766]. Very Good. Item #6644

London: Printed for the Author; and Sold by W. Griffin, [1766]. First Edition. Octavo. 118 pages. Bound in 19th century boards with leather spine and tips with gilt lettering to spine.

Chipped at extremities with loss to bottom of spine. General scuffing and rubbing to boards. Ownership stamp to boards and preliminaries. Cracked at front hinge but binding is holding. Some toning to pages. Manuscript annotations to title page in pen and pencil identifying, apparently correctly, the subjects of the books as William Warburton and Robert Lowth, as well as the author, Andrew Wilson.

The Warburton/Lowth controversy stemmed from the former's defense of orthodox Christian belief, the first part of which was originally published in 1738.

No copies found in retail or auction records.
